PARENTS:

HOW YOU CAN HELP?

Attendance is important for connecting the lessons for children and building a community within their groups. Skipping regularly gives the impression of a lack of importance and is inconsiderate to the teachers who have planned for the lessons. It is much more interesting when everyone is involved!

Explain to your children the ways in which you apply the 7 Principles of Unitarian Universalism in your life.

Emphasize the importance of participation in RE and the Service. Children will usually have a Story read to them during the Morning Service and will be dismissed to Second Hour activities after the Candles of Care and Concern.

Understand that even though small children are wiggly and sometimes talkative, our church welcomes people of all ages. Calmly reinforce your expectations to your child regarding church behavior. It’s o.k. for them to ask you questions, laugh or cry in church. The spontaneity and honesty of children is refreshing to us all!

Take care of your own spiritual needs. Meet with a Program or RE Committee member to discuss religious needs you may have. Join many of the Adult Study/Meditation or Social/Activism groups that our church offers.

  • Notify Director of Religious Education if there are any special needs your child has.
  • Make sure your child is registered for RE.
  • Participate in Intergenerational activities.
  • Get to know and appreciate your child’s teachers!
  • Promptly pick-up your child after services.

There is no sin to be washed away here.
We see each child as a special gift,
Filled with a spark of the divine.
May we be worthy guardians of each young life,
Building a community in which each will grow old
Surrounded by beauty,
Embraced by love,
And cradled in the arms of peace.
